During the recent stint of extreme weather in southern China, one casualty has hit many especially hard — the tragic death of a young girl who drowned last week while doing a good deed.
In Dazhou, Sichuan, torrential rain has proved fatal. While helping one granny navigate the flooded city streets, a sixth-grade girl was unfortunately washed underneath a car and drowned. According to NetEase, the old lady nearly went with her, but passersby were able to rush to the rescue.
Yet again, many netizens went online to lament the inefficiency of the nation’s drainage system, commenting: “With the second best economy in the world, China can’t even manage a drainage system properly.” Others blamed the extreme weather for this tragedy.
Good Samaritans have drowned before while attempting to help others, but in the middle of a city street?
Be careful out there!
