Yesterday, the South China Sea arbitration ruling against China was met with a quick, resounding and complete rejection by China’s president, government and press. But what do the Chinese people have to say?
That was the phrase repeated by many in a militaristic music video that has gone viral online, aptly titled “South China Sea Arbitration, who cares?”
According to The Washington Post, the video was produced by dooo.cc and Qing Wei Studios, which have ties with the Communist Youth League. It shows clips of the South China Sea, the Chinese military and many young people asking, “南海仲裁 (South China Sea Arbitration), who cares?”

The video has collected around 19,000 likes on Weibo. Many comments echoed its sentiment:
“Without Father China’s signature, it’s just a piece of scrap paper,” other netizens commented about the Hague court’s ruling. This political cartoon, also from dooo.cc, emphasized the same attitude:
