Images of one female farmer crying her eyes out, holding her drowned piggies after a devastating flood have touched netizens’ hearts across China.
Recently, torrential rains have caused severe flooding across China. Including in Xiaogan city, Hubei province where over 15,000 residents were evacuated. People were forced to leave behind their homes, businesses and their livestock. When farmers returned, they found that many of their pigs had not survived the floods, NetEase reports.
Because these poor porkers represented essentially one female farmer’s entire livelihood, she was completely heartbroken. The farmer was photographed tearfully holding onto some of her lost hogs.
Earlier this month, some 3,000 pigs were trapped at a farm in Anhui with flood levels rising. Photos of one farmer saying a tearful goodbye to his seemingly doomed sows went viral online, prompting a daring rescue mission.
Operation: Save the Bacon was a success with at least 1,000 pigs rescued from the flooded farm, only to be promptly sent to the slaughterhouse.
