Well, apparently China didn’t learn much from its 106-57 defeat to Team USA on Sunday, getting beat down again in a rematch last night 107-57.
The game took place at Oracle Stadium in Oakland with the newest member of the Warriors, Kevin Durant, making his debut in front of the home crowd, scoring 13 points. Demarcus Cousins and Carmelo Anthony were the leading scorers of the night, with 21 points and 20 points respectively.
Yet again, the box score wasn’t so pretty for China. NBA draftee Zhou Qi scored a team high 13 points. Point guard Guo “Asian Iverson” Ailun, played with no fear, filling up the stat sheet with 11 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Really, the fact that the Chinese team was able to match its poor performance from last time was pretty impressive. “The Chairman” Yi Jianlin, the team’s best player and biggest name, was absent due to injury.
The game did not disappoint as players from both sides (well, mostly the American one) showcased their athleticism and skill, including a few sweet crossovers and Eurosteps moves from Zhou Qi:
And this unbelievable 360 dunk attempt by DeMar DeRozan:
Reigning MVP Steph Curry and former Finals MVP Andre Iguodala both showed up at the game to welcome Kevin Durant. KD received raucous applause from Warriors fans from the moment he walked out of the tunnel.
The next time these two teams will meet will be in Rio. They play on the first day of the games, Saturday, August 6th at 7:00 p.m. local time. Who knows, maybe third time’s the charm?
