Normally, when Chinese tourists make the headlines, it’s for something embarrassing they have done. However, recently, Bin Bin Ji, a woman from Beijing also known as “Sister Bin,” has become a minor celebrity for posting an epic 3 minute rant about Chinese tourists misbehaving abroad onto Facebook.
Her video has been viewed more than 400,000 times and has been reposted onto Weibo. After sharing her thoughts, Bin has been hailed by people in China, ethnic Chinese abroad, and people in Thailand. Random people now ask to take pictures with her and she has created her own Facebook page, where hopefully she will share more of her thoughts in the future. She already has over 4,000 followers.
In the video, Bin starts off by describing another Chinese woman in her tour group who insisted on taking a large piece of wood from Lovers’ Beach in Phuket, Thailand. The tour guides told the lady that it is not allowed for items on the beach to be removed, but the woman would have none of it… that is until Sister Bin stepped in. In the end, the wood remained untouched, but Sister Bin was far from done. She also talks about the mentality of rowdy Chinese tourists, calling for them to change and obey the laws in the country that they visit.
To describe the situation, Sister Bin uses quite a colorful array of language, but in a later interview with Xinhua, she argues that while the words she uses might be coarse, the logic and ideas behind them are not.
Netizens have overwhelmingly voiced their supported for Sister Bin’s call for justice.
“Did the [Chinese] woman want to bring the piece of wood home for her coffin?” @Zero__G wrote.
“China needs more people like Sister Bin,” @最容易迷路的小J wrote.
“Some Chinese people are incredibly shameless. I completely agree with what Sister Bin said,” @嫒沫漓别 wrote.
