With the overnight popularity of Fu Yuanhui, Ning Zetao and Sun Yang, it looks like every single person in China hit the pool this weekend to practice their inner tube stroke for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
You might recognize this particular pool from a viral set of images from 2011. It is located in Sichuan’s Dayang county and is popularly known as “China’s Dead Sea,” because its salt content is similar to that of the real Dead Sea. The pool is actually more of a hot spring, fed by an underground lake that was formed 150 million years ago. There is some data out there that suggests that one hour of swimming in this pool can have the same effect as eight hours of sleep.
So, with the Sichuan Meteorological Observatory issuing yet another orange warning for heat in the eastern part of the province, what better place to flock to? Over 6,000 “swimmers” visited yesterday — it’s supposed to be able to fit 10,000.
Make sure to remember which ones are yours!
Better to just stay in the lazy river.
