China is known for producing world-class divers. Chinese diver Wu Minxia won her fifth gold medal at Rio and told the world, “I think I’m great.” That being said, while some Chinese athletes might be great at diving, not every Chinese person can be a great diver.
A 17-year-old boy from Jiangxi thought he perhaps had what it takes to become an Olympic diver and decided to make a home video to show the world. His choice of diving platform was the Xinjiang Bridge, which is 25 meters tall, nearly 2.5 times higher than the tallest Olympic diving platform. What a challenge! Unfortunately for him, it didn’t end with a gold medal. But a trip to the hospital.
He landed in a belly flop — which the Chinese media pointed out was much like the performance of Malaysian diver Ahmad Amsyar Azman. After getting out of the water, the boy was immediately sent to the hospital. He sustained several thoracic fractures and lung injuries, Sina reports.
