The world’s biggest beer festival Oktoberfest may be coming to a close in its native Munich, but here in Shanghai, the party is just about to get started. So grab your dirndl and lederhosen and get ready to get properly sloshed at Germany brewery König Ludwig’s massive Oktoberfest party happening in Jing’an district’s Tonglefang complex from the 13th to 15th of October.

Oktoberfest1.jpg

All the fun and games will take place within a big tent (“Festzelt”) and an indoor space (“Stüberl”). Be entertained with live music by a traditional Bavarian band as you down some good old-fashioned German fare (schnitzel, sausages, roasted pork and chicken, and German radish!) along with some great beer from Bavarian favorites König Ludwig and Warsteiner in liter-sized mugs.

Each ticket (costing ¥300 to ¥350 depending which day you go) gives you ALL-YOU-CAN-DRINK beer plus one traditional dish. For those of you coming with your party posse (who wants to get sloshed alone?), tables of ten — going for ¥2,500 to ¥3,000 – give you reserved seating inside the tent.

König Ludwig traces its brewing business back to 1260. Select ingredients, a special brewing process, perfected quality control and bottle fermentation gives the royal Bavarian “Weissbier” the unmistakable taste of diverse fruity beer flavors.

Honored with the World Beer Award for the world’s best wheat beer in 2008, and praised as the “prototype of a Bavarian wheat beer” by the jury of the international journal “Beers of the World”, König Ludwig beers are borne in the cellars of the Kaltenberg Castle, where beer has been brewed since 1871, and is still a residence for Prince Luitpold of Bavaria.

warsteiner2.jpg
Warsteiner is Germany’s largest privately-owned brewery, located in the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park outside of Warstein in the North-Rhine Westphalia region.

The Warsteiner slogan, found on each bottle reads, “Eine Königin unter den Bieren” which literally translates into English as “A Queen amongst Beers”, referring to the queen’s crown on each beer bottle.
