The Yangtze River Ropeway provides picturesque views of the Chongqing skyline, as well as one of China’s greatest rivers — for those that are willing to wait.
On Monday night, the line to enter the cable car station was reported to be over 1,000 meters long, which is pretty incredible considering the ropeway itself measures just 1,116-meters.
During a typical busy day, the cable car takes around 10,000 tourists across the Yangtze, but on Monday it transported 18,000 of them, just a thousand tourists shy of the all-time single day record, the Chongqing Morning Post reports. Over the first three days of Golden Week this year, 48,000 ropeway trips were made, 10,000 more than the same period last year.
Completed in 1987, the ropeway used to be a popular way for Chongqing residents to cross the mighty Yangtze, but nowadays it has become more of a tourist attraction, which is reflected in ticket prices that have skyrocketed from 2 RMB to 20 RMB by the beginning of the Golden Week holiday.
To be fair, the views can be pretty spectacular on a clear day.
