Normally, to get a free meal in China, you either have to be fat or good-looking, but one buffet restaurant in Anhui recently handed out coupons for free meals to everybody.
Turns out, bad idea.
To celebrate China’s National Day holiday, the restaurant in Tongling city distributed 5 days worth of coupons to local residents, resulting in total chaos. Apparently, people like free things.
Photos have gone viral on Chinese social media showing security guards trying to prevent a stampede at the restaurant’s entrance with dozens of people anxiously waiting in line for their chance to come in and grab some free grub.
The photos also show a large amount of uneaten food, and there’s nothing that Chinese web users hate more than wasted food.
“Even though it’s free, there’s still so much food left over, the quality must not be good,” commented one netizen.
“You would have to pay me to eat there,” wrote another.
“Once you hear something is free, you rush out to get it no matter what, that is the Chinese national spirit,” joked another netizen.
Hey, could have been worse.
