Oktoberfest @ Tonglefang
The world’s biggest beer festival Oktoberfest may be coming to a close in its native Munich, but here in Shanghai, the party is just about to get started. So grab your dirndl and lederhosen and get ready to get properly sloshed at Germany brewery König Ludwig’s massive Oktoberfest party happening in Jing’an district’s Tonglefang complex from the 13th to 15th of October. The event runs from 5pm – 10:30pm and tickets are ¥350 per person, or ¥3000 for a table up to 10 people. Tickets include unlimited beer, soft drinks, appetizer and one traditional dish per person.

Fashion Rocks @ Oriental Sports Centre
Founded in London in 2003, Fashion Rocks is the place where music and fashion collide live on one stage. For more than a decade, fashion rocks has brought together to the world’s top fashion brands with the world’s leading music artists for a union of cat walk and concert. Expect big names such as Usher and Coco Lee for the night.

Vicetone @ M2
The Dutch DJ and production duo of Ruben Den Boer and Victor Pool are playing at the club M2 Friday night. They have topped the Beatport charts with anthems like ‘Let Me Feel’ and have remixed megastars like Adele and Calvin Harris. Fixtures on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ list, the have over half a million likes on their Facebook and over 50 million pays on their SoundCloud page. The show starts at 10pm and tickets are ¥150.

Minhang Friday Market @ Community Centre Shanghai
Running from 10am to 2pm, expat community ”Community Centre Shanghai” organised another Friday market, this time at their Minhang centre. Expect coffee, teas, pastries, produces and volunteering opportunities from their two charity organisations, River of Hearts and Giving Tree. This event is free.

BREW & BLEND 2016+X @ M50
Join over 150 artists, designers, filmmakers, architects, chefs, performers and musicians this weekend at the Shanghai Art District M50. Far from an ordinary arts and lifestyle festival, BREW & BLEND 2016 + X is an experiment that transforms the 6000 square meter industrial park into a unique future city through installations, exhibitions, performances and workshops that invites you to participate, imagine and test yourself. You will be exploring ideas of body versus technology, emotional robots, future laws, sensory food experiences and various forms of reality. Tickets are ¥50 for one day passes, ¥100 for three day passes and ¥30 for students.

The Development Of Chinese Painting @ DOBE [email protected]
Despite all the visually stimulating colors of the world, artists have represented reality through two important elements that still represents Chinese painting for centuries: Black and White. The figures that takes shape through simple and delicate lines allows the viewer to perceive their own existence. The simple balance between the colors originating from an earlier primordial philosophy of the aesthetic essence of this traditional form of painting. Chinese painter Jin XiaoRi will give you a speech about the connotation of the colors black and white in traditional painting and guide us to appreciate the beauty of it in Chinese art. This is a free event running from 4pm-6pm held at WE venue at the Bund.

JZ Festival @ Expo Park
JZ Music is proud to announce its 12th annual jazz festival in Shanghai Expo Park this October. Over the past decade, JZ Festival has grown to become the largest jazz festival in China. The theme for this year’s festival is “Get on your jazz way!”, aimed to inspire individuals to include jazz as part of their daily life. JZ Music continues their dedication to bringing the finest international and local musicians to the Chinese audience. This is a two day festival on Saturday and Sunday and tickets are ¥350 at the door.

Do you have what it takes for your challenge of a lifetime? Get ready to jump through fire, climb under barbed wire, crawl through mud, and scale walls at China’s first ever Spartan Race, happening this October 16th in Shanghai. Originating in the United States, the Spartan Race is the world leader in obstacle course racing and is not only a great way for athletes to compete against one another, but also a fun and exciting way to exercise. this is the first time the Spartan Race has ever been conducted in China, they’ll just be hosting Sprint events both in Shanghai and Beijing. Though this is the shortest of all the three course types, it still crams more than twenty obstacles into just over six kilometers (~3mi).
