Deca Dance @ Shanghai International Dance Centre
Renowned dance company based in Israel, Batsheva Dance Company’s contemporary choreographer & artistic director Ohad Naharin has been hailed as one of the world’s most influential choreographers. Naharin has created an innovative, sensation-based movement language called Gaga dance, which has revolutionized the company’s training. It is a force in the larger field of movement practices for both dancers and non-dancers. Held at the Shanghai International Dance Center, a selection of Batsheva Dance Company’s most memorable pieces will be performed at their new stage show, Deca Dance.

Violin Recital @ Shanghai Oriental Art Center
Rare talent, Julia Fischer, will be performing at the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre. Starting violin at the age of four, Julia has won eight first prizes in eight national and international soloist competitions since 1989, five for her violin and three for her piano performances. For the violin recital, Martin Helmchen will also be performing on piano. Tickets range from ¥80-¥580 and the show starts at 7.30pm.

Health & Wellness Talk @ Community Centre Shanghai
Hosted by Community Centre Shanghai (CCS), this unique and interactive nutrition cooking series focuses on improving nutrition, digestion, and health. The speaker Kimberly Ashton is a corporate and education speaker, blogger, author of the book TCM Smoothies, and WeChat online TV host of Bio+healthy kitchen show. This will be held at CCS’ Pudong Centre on Tuesday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and tickets are ¥350 per session.

Beginner’s Calligraphy @ Craft’d
Calligraphy is another craft which has enjoyed a recent revival in popularity. It is a great, and simple, way of adding a personal touch to cards, letters and stationary. In this class you will begin by practicing a variety of strokes and letters using the calligraphy pen and inks. You will then be provided with practice papers and sample calligraphy alphabets that you can use in order to discover a style that suits you best. You will be able to take away a calligraphy pen and a pot of ink to continue practicing at home.This workshop is ¥300 and includes a glass of wine or soft drink, plus snacks.

”LUS” (Light) @ Power Station of Art
Directed by Marco Martinelli, ”LUS” (Light) is a voice and theatre concerto performance. Performing for the first time in China, Ermanna Montanari and Luigi Ceccarelli will be on stage bringing you an unforgettable experience. Shows are ongoing for two nights straight at the Power Station of Art and tickets are ¥150.

Movie screening @ Craft
This month at Craft you’ll have a chance to see a few movies by a Cantonese filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai. Tonight they’ll be screening “Fallen Angels” – a story of the martial-arts master who trained Bruce Lee. Happy hour includes a buy one get one free on all menu items, and you’ll also get to snack on delicious pierogi made by the Pierogi Ladies! Fine Arts pop-up @ Grand Kempinski Hotel
Situated in the heart of Lujiazui, the Grand Kempiniski hotel launches a Fine Arts pop-up boutique store featuring the VBL gallery. Co-founded by renowned French interior designer, Valerie Barrelet, VBL is an antique and design gallery that collects a mixed array of items from contemporary and traditional paintings, vases, silverware and vintage jewellery to furnitures and carpets. Barrelet offers Shanghai-ers a unique selection of items such as candles made from 100-year old antique teacups. Antique lovers, this is a pop-up boutique not to be missed.
