Earlier this week, one building near the Bund in Shanghai was dressed up to look like a giant strawberry birthday cake. Unfortunately for us all, the party only lasted less than two days with Huangpu District authorities promptly ordering that the decorations be removed for not conforming to their own tastes.
Maybe they don’t like strawberry?
The eight-story structure located just off the Bund was transformed into a humongous pink and white layered cake to celebrate the anniversary of one company based in the building on Tuesday, China News reports.
However, the company apparently failed to inform local authorities about their birthday plans. The “cake building” is surrounded by somewhat more stately colonial buildings and officials felt that its decorum was not appropriate for one of the city’s most famous and historic landmarks, according to The Paper.
So, at around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, workers began to remove the festive decorations.
Party’s over, folks.
