Following a record-breaking Singles Day last week, China has been awash in approximately a trillion packages that need to find their way to customers.
And delivering them is Wang Xiaoliang’s job. What the 27-year-old lacks in his arms, he more than makes up for in work ethic. Wang lost his right arm in traffic accident when he was 20 years old. Laughing in the face of tragedy, he soon started up a career as a courier in Xiangyang city, Hubei province, learning how to deliver packages and write orders using his left hand.
For the last week, Wang has put that left hand to good use. Tencent reports that on Singles Day, he worked from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., only taking a break to eat an apple for lunch. During a nonstop 15-hour period, he delivered 400 packages to Singles Day shoppers.
Still, Wang is used to hard work. According to Tencent, he works 350 days a year and never has a full weekend off until the Spring Festival holiday. It’s because of people like Wang that you don’t have to go to Australia to get some Goat Soap.
Hey, it’s an easier gig than being an one-armed porter on Huashan.
