While we’ve seen some neat-looking themed metro carriages before in China, the Hangzhou Metro has really gone all-out in making its new “forest carriage.”
Featuring moss, leaves, and potted plants, the subway car is designed to promote “green” or environmentally-friendly transportation in the urban jungle. Last year, the Guangzhou Metro tried much the same thing with a themed train decorated with colorful murals for all four seasons. But apparently, Hangzhou has a bigger prop budget.
Unfortunately, it appears that the metro carriage was only opened briefly on Monday morning on Hangzhou’s Line 1, NetEase reports.
Perhaps because it’s not terribly practical. The “forest carriage” has been met with negative reviews from Chinese web users who say that it looks like it would be both uncomfortable and crowded… as opposed to regular trips on the subway.
