Life lesson for today: If you are ever in an elevator with 200 hydrogen balloons and seven other people, and one of them takes out a lighter, don’t by shy, speak up!
Firefighters in Lu’an city, Anhui province rescued eight shaken and slightly scorched people from an elevator on Sunday night. They were all guests at a birthday party being held in a hotel. Apparently, it was quite the blowout with hundreds of hydrogen balloons.
Some of the guests apparently thought their kids might enjoy having a few dozen balloons of their own, taking them back up to their rooms in the elevator. With eight people and 200 balloons somehow crammed together inside a single elevator, the temptation for stupidity became just too strong.
“Light it! Light it!” some of the passengers urged, drowning out the objections of the others, Sina News reports.
And light it some fool did, causing not one, but 200 hydrogen balloons to burst all at once. The explosion stopped the elevator, leaving the rattled passengers stuck between floors until firefighters arrived to rescue them. Surprisingly, none of the party-goers suffered serious injury from the incident.
