Hiromi Jazz Piano @ Shanghai Centre
Japanese composer and pianist is showcasing her jazz fusion music for the first time in Shanghai. Her music is more melodious than traditional jazz fusion and is almost orchestral. Her past awards include the 53rd Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

Bassment @ The Shelter
As the 6th year anniversary of Bassment at The Shelter, this night pays homage to The Shelter’s commitment to Shanghai’s underground music scene. A slew of DJs are coming to this event to celebrate the end of Bassment before The Shelter closes. Guests include Skinny Brown, Laura Ingalls, Lina K, and Clement pony.

The Future of Charity @ URBN
Green Initiatives tackles the interesting topic of transparency in China’s charities. “Chinese society in particular, has been concerned about transparency and efficiency of the charity system. How can we be sure that an organization is honest and legitimate? Where are our donations used most effectively? Charities? Non-profits? Social enterprises?” It’s ¥30 if you RSVP beforehand on their website, students/ interns can get in for free if you RSVP. The event is only in Mandarin and it goes on from 6-9pm.

Henri Chinaski’s Short Stories Collection @ Aike Dellarco
Aike Dellarco is glad to announce Nathan Zhou’s solo show “Henri Chinaski’s Short Stories Collection”. The works in the exhibition are his most recent pieces, specifically made on-site for the gallery space. As a “novelist”, Nathan Zhou adopts the methodology of novel writing and applies to art making and graffiti improvisation. He categorizes his observation and thoughts about his own daily life into various aspects and accomplished these “short stories” in the style of stream of consciousness. Being his first “literature work”, its “launching ceremony” will be held at 2pm, Dec 18.

Sleep No More @ The Mckinnon Hotel
Co-produced by Punchdrunk International and SMG Live, Sleep No More enacts Shakespeare’s well known tragedy, Macbeth, through a “darkly cinematic lens.” Sleep No More has been performed in London, Boston, New York, and now comes to Shanghai.

Born Beyond the Womb by Wu Tzu-ning @ Department for Culture and Education of the German Consulate General in Shanghai (AKuB)

Wu Tzu-ning’s solo project “Born Beyond the Womb” takes us on a journey through the cyber-scape and into transhumanist topics, the murky depths of genetic engineering and the digital afterlife. The show is divided into three sections: posthuman skins, posthuman memories, and posthuman implants. Using video, websites, and installations, it addresses topics such as our networked existence, genetic engineering, vertical farming, genetically modified food, and infusion based feeding systems. This exhibition is part of the larger series “Foreign Bodies: Human Identity in a Posthuman World” organized by the Department for Culture and Education of the German Consulate General in Shanghai (AKuB).
