With a tradition of filial piety going back thousands of years, Chinese sons and daughters typically take great pride in taking good care of their elderly parents; however, this isn’t always the case.
In Guangxi, a 92-year-old woman was recently found living inside a filthy pigpen. Reportedly, her son and daughter-in-law have kept her locked up in there for several years.
A disturbing video has gone viral on Chinese social media showing the poor old woman and her squalid prison containing only a wooden board covered by an old quilt for her to sleep on.
The woman surnamed Yang, looking dangerously frail, has been rescued from the pigpen and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police are now investigating the matter and suspect the couple of maltreatment.

Fortunately, the woman was found alive. This was not the case for one 90-year-old woman in Hunan in 2014 who had been locked away for a month by her children and starved to death.
Unfortunately in China, a pigpen is a popular place to keep unwanted family members. Back in 2014, an 8-year-old girl in Sichuan province was rescued from a pigpen where her mentally-ill mother kept her. The next year, a story went viral concerning a 7-year-old boy from Henan province who was also found living in a pigpen.
