Hong Kong star Andy Lau looks to have a rough year ahead of him after falling off a horse while filming a tea commercial in Thailand last week.
Lau was transported back to Hong Kong last Thursday and taken to the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital for treatment. He suffered multiple fractures to his pelvis which doctors say will keep him at the hospital for an additional six to eight weeks, and will require six to nine months of rehabilitation.
Obviously this isn’t good news for the 55-year-old actor and singer’s career plans. He will likely have to sit out promotional campaigns for his upcoming films and may have to cancel a series of year-end concerts he had planned at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
According to Straits Times, Lau’s friend, singer Alan Tam, recently visited him at the hospital, but the visit was cut short when Lau confessed that it hurt him just to laugh or talk.
Apple Daily reports that Lau’s treatment will cost a whopping HK$3 million (US$390,000). Fortunately, he’s already insured for US$50 million.
