Every kid needs a hobby, for 5-year-old Zhang Wang that hobby happens to be tightrope walking.
Zhang is learning the tricky art from his old man. Every morning before heading off to kindergarten, the boy walks 500 meters along a wire with his dad close at hand to catch him just in case he falls.
Locals are suitably impressed with the 5-year-old, not just with his skills on the tightrope, but also because of his determination to stick with a training regimen. Each day, Zhang runs, does push-ups and even squats. His father also takes him out rock climbing near their home in Nanjiang county in southern Sichuan province.
Zhang’s dad says he never pushed his boy into tightrope walking, instead explaining that Zhang got interested in it from watching him train. The proud father says that he hopes tightrope walking will help boost his son’s self-confidence.
As for whether he hopes that Zhang will make a career out of it someday, he is unsure. His greatest wish is for Zhang to go to college. If that doesn’t happen, then he hopes his son will follow his own passions.
