When Ghost (starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore) was first released in 1990, it was nominated for an Academy Award. Now the film has been re-imagined as musical and is just as magical as the movie at the Shanghai Cultural Square.

In the exhibition, ShanghART will showcase works by renowned Chinese artists such as Zeng Fanzhi, Ding Yi, Zhang Enli, Yang Fudong and Xu Zhen, alongside works by emerging artists from China, such as Sun Xun, Zhao Yang and Ouyang Chun, as well as overseas artists, such as Jörg Immendorff and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, initiating rich and diverse new dialogues between local and international art communities. Each work stands on its own, and yet the theme of the exhibition resonates through all of them, as each artist expresses his/her own way of finding the ‘Holzweg’.

Vivienne Westwood’s exhibit @ chi K11 Art Space
K11 invites British fashion designer brand Vivienne Westwood to host a cross-over exhibition between Chinese contemporary art and eco-friendly fashion. Ongoing until the February 28th, the exhibit “Get a Life” is a topic inspired by Vivienne Westwood’s strong attitude towards climate revolution. A handful of Chinese contemporary artists will present their works in mediums such as photos, videos and fashion design, showcasing their understanding of the relationships among nature, environment and humanity. Early bird tickets start from ¥50 and tickets are ¥100 at the door.

James Turrell @ Long Museum
This exhibit by American artist James Turrell ‘Immersive Lights’ brings together the oeuvre of Turrell’s five-decade career, which includes not only his iconic light projections and space installations, but also a selection of photography and prints. Furthermore, a major new site-specific installation will offer the audience a transformed exceptional experience of the Long Museum. As one of the most influential contemporary artists, Turrell seeks to celebrate the pleasure of sensing and to extend the limitations of human perception.

Using the idea of the networked human being—now inseparable from our tools- four artists from four regions of Asia has been selected (Tian Xiaolei, Wu Tzu-ning, Katsuki Nogami and Shinseungback Kimyonghun) to explore the question of human identity in a post-human world. Each artist group will present a solo project until April 28, 2017 featuring artist talks and a publication, “Foreign Bodies: Human Identity in a Posthuman World” with a series of texts by artists and academics to accompany each project.
