A pulse-pounding rescue video has gone viral on Chinese social media starring a group of good Samaritans saving a woman from drowning in an icy river.
The incident took place last Friday in Wudi county, Shandong province following a serious car crash that sent one vehicle hurtling out of control into a frozen river nearby.
Without hesitation, passersby at the scene of the crash ran to help the female driver now trapped inside her vehicle partly submerged in the freezing water. Some plunged into the icy river themselves, others called the police, while still others filmed the whole thing on their phones.
Eventually, the good Samaritans were able to find a large wooden log which they used to smash open the car’s back window and get inside. Racing against time, they were finally able to get the woman back out on dry land in three minutes.
The woman was then rushed to the hospital where she remains in critical condition.
