At least 15 people were injured in Hong Kong on Friday evening after a man reportedly tried to throw what has been described as a “molotov cocktail” onto a MTR train during rush hour at the Tsim Sha Tsui station.
According to SCMP, the incident occurred at around 7:14 p.m. on a train traveling from Admiralty to Tsim Sha Tsui. As the train was nearing the station platform a man attempted to hurl a “molotov cocktail,” but caught himself on fire first.
Police said that at least 15 people were injured in the resulting fire with several being taken to the hospital. One Chinese man was escorted to the hospital by police, but no charges have yet been made and the motive behind the apparent attack is still unknown.
Videos are circulating online showing the aftermath of the incident. In one video a man lies on the floor of the station platform with his pants on fire while passengers franctically try to put the fire out.
