Six officials have been punished for turning a bureaucrat motivation meeting into a slumber party.
While speakers on stage went on about how to inspire lazy and sluggish officials to do their job with more vigor and passion, at least six of those cadres in attendance decided to close their eyes for just one moment…
Photos of the six sleepy Hubei officials have since been published online for Chinese netizens to mock.
“Eating and drinking all day and sleeping all night can get tiring, a meeting is the most optimal time to catch some shut-eye,” commented one web user.
“They were probably all up too late the night before playing mahjong,” guessed another.
For their improper naptime the six officials have been named and shamed by the Communist Party discipline bureau of Xiangyang city, and forced to write self-criticisms and make public apologies.
Hopefully, the officials will still be allowed to attend the next “Two Sessions” meeting in Beijing — the biggest slumber party of them all.
