The 2017 edition of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list just dropped with Shanghai registering only two spots on the prestigious annual ranking.
Paul Pairet’s sensory tour de force, Ultraviolet, snagged 8th place, while the Shanghainese vegetarian concept restaurant Fu He Hui just squeaked in at #48.
Admittedly, only placing two restaurants into the top 50 is pretty disappointing for a city that just got its very own Michelin Guide where 26 restaurants received at least one star. In 2013 and 2014, five Shanghai eateries earned places on the list.
Still, the two restaurants were the only ones to be included from mainland China. Seven Hong Kong eateries and two more from Macau helped to bring China’s total number of honored restaurants to 11.
