Today’s word of the day is…
These days, we often use the term 谢谢 (xièxie) as a response to compliments from others. But most traditional Chinese still prefer responding to compliments with the phrase 哪里哪里 (nǎlǐ nǎlǐ).
When somebody uses the phrase 哪里哪里 (nǎlǐ nǎlǐ), they’re not actually trying to ask you where something is. It’s used in a self-deprecatory tone to imply, I’m not as good as you said.
