The infamous Badaling Wildlife Park was the stage for yet another terrifying incident recently, this time involving a group of bears and an open car window.
While driving through the black bear enclosure at the safari-style park outside of Beijing on Sunday, a white car stopped and its back window was rolled down, causing a group of bears to gather around the car with one trying to claw its way inside the vehicle.
A Weibo user who was in the vehicle behind the white car wrote that a child in the backseat had cracked open the window. It’s not clear why the window was not immediately rolled back up or why the vehicle remained stationary while being besieged by bears.
It wasn’t until park officers ordered the vehicle to move over a loudspeaker that the car jolted ahead and the situation was resolved without bloodshed.
Before entering the bear enclosure, there is a sign warning visitors not to get out of their cars and to close their windows and lock their doors.
Additionally, a sign in front of the vehicle at the time of the bear attack reads: “Treasure life, do not leave the car.”
So, in the end, this was a much happier result than in last July when a woman stepped out of her vehicle inside the park’s tiger enclosure only to be dragged away by a tiger. While the woman miraculously survived the mauling, her mother was tragically killed while attempting to rescue her.
