A Sichuan father recently demonstrated an unusually cruel way of teaching his son arithmetic, dangling the boy above a river while asking him math problems.
In a video that has gone viral on Chinese social, the father is shown holding one end of a rope that is thrown over a tree limb with the other end tied around his son’s waist. The dad shoves the boy off of the handrail and his high-pressure math test begins.
While his father pulls him up and down above the river, the 7-year-old is seen sobbing and begging his dad to stop.
Apparently, the kid hadn’t been doing his homework.
According to The Paper, the incident occurred in the city of Meishan on Monday with a crowd gathering around to watch. While some worry about the boy’s safety, most are instead heard laughing and giggling about the scene.
However, the father’s extreme math lesson has been less of a hit online where Chinese netizens have accused him of abuse that will not soon go away.
“Now, whenever the boy hears a math problem. He will start to panic. Great job, dad!” one Weibo user commented.
