In order to make his elderly mother happy in her golden years, one filial son has been dressing up in drag on the weekends.
Each weekend, 74-year-old Li Yinglai heads down to Kunming’s Green Lake Park wearing a qipao or skirt, high-heeled shoes, makeup and a kooky pair of glasses where he attracts quite the crowd by dancing around gracefully.
But Li says that he doesn’t do it for the attention, he does it for his mom. He explains that his mother had always wanted a daughter, but instead she had two sons.
To fulfill her lifelong wish, Li was suddenly struck by an idea at the age of 60 of dressing up as a woman himself. Prior to that epiphany, he claims he had never cross-dressed before, stressing that he only does it on the weekends.
Li has never held a steady job in his life. Currently, he lives off welfare and by collecting scrap, spending much of his time taking care of his 96-year-old mom. As for what his mother thinks about all of this, she told reporters that “As long as he’s happy, then it’s okay.”
