Nationalistic tabloid the Global Times decided to show its appreciation for International Women’s Day today by reminding its followers about another important day that draws less notice, particularly in early March.
“This #womensday, let’s not forget International Men’s Day (Nov 19), a time to celebrate our achievements and fight against discrimination,” reads a tweet from the outspoken Chinese state media organization which also has nearly 200,000 followers on Twitter.
Seriously, this is a real thing. Check it out:

Twitter users were left stupefied:
“This black history month, let’s not forget white people & take time to celebrate their achievements & their struggle!”
“This is some Grade A trolling.”
“Seriously? Is this a joke?”
“Why do we need to remember men’s day in Nov today on women’s day!!?”
So, just what happened here? An intern taking the piss? A laowai editor gone rogue? We’re just as confused as you are. Though we would note the traditional tone-deaf nature of Chinese state media. For instance, Xinhua also published this investigate article today alleging that there are females to be found at this year’s legislative meetings in Beijing.
