A new university campus in Jiangxi province has recently gone viral on Chinese social media thanks to its “retro style.”
The Institute of Technology of East China Jiaotong University in Jing’an, Jiangxi province looks a bit different from typical Chinese university, earning comparisons instead to the Forbidden City in Beijing.
Instead of being located in the center of China’s capital, the campus is located out in the mountains of Jiangxi province, surrounded by a large river and nature. The imperial-style buildings of red and yellow are meant to help students draw upon traditional Chinese culture and make some pretty sketches — as you might be able to guess, the campus will be populated by art students, not computer science ones.
The campus reportedly cost 1 billion yuan ($144 million) to build. It can accommodate 5,000 students and is scheduled to open in May.
When we assume it will also become a tourist hotspot.
