Near the end of the grueling 2017 Wuxi International Marathon, a Bahrain runner in third place got his lucky break when the two runners in front of him missed the final turn.
Over 2 hours and 12 minutes into the 42.2km race, two runners from Ethiopia had been comfortably in the lead, but made a costly mistake in the last 100 meters after apparently running to the wrong finish line.
Cameras at the real finish line set up to capture the dramatic final moments watched as the two runners simply jogged off-screen. Before they could get back on track, it was too late, the runner in third had become first. Just like he had planned all along.
Hey, at least they beat all these other people.

Chinese netizens have expressed their sorrow for the two runners who were in the lead, blaming organizers for including an unexpected sharp turn at the very end of the race. The marathon’s organizing committee has dismissed any criticism, stating that the course was up to standard.
