Always wanted to see the world famous Moai statues of Easter Island, but don’t have the time to fly all the way there?
Well, have we got some good new for you! A university in Chengdu has constructed its very own Easter Island heads right on campus. Photos of the shanzhai statues hit the Chinese internet earlier today, and were met with much ridicule.
“Thousands of years from now, an archaeology team will come to the conclusion: human civilization began in Chengdu,” one netizen wrote.
China has something of a reputation for creating knockoff versions of famous world wonders, from the Great Sphinx of Shijiazhuang to the London Tower Bridge of Suzhou. However, recently one tourist site got in a bit of legal trouble after the real Terracotta Army caught wind of the hundreds of fake warriors they had built in rural Anhui province.
