A Chinese student studying at Arizona State University is now in the process of being deported back to China after he was found guilty of sneaking into a women’s bathroom to record pervy videos.
22-year-old Zhang Xiaoyuan was spotted by two women as he was walking out of a women’s restroom on the ASU campus in September. Suspecting the worst, the women snatched his phone from him and waited for police. After Zhang gave police consent to search his phone, the women were able to identify other women that Zhang had surreptitiously recorded in the bathroom without their knowledge.
Through a translator, Zhang told officers that he had recorded the videos from the women’s bathroom stall because he has a “dirty mind.”
Later, police obtained a warrant to search Zhang’s phone, finding other upskirt videos and photos. He was charged with six counts of unlawful viewing, taping and recording of persons, and placed on federal immigration hold. In January he was convicted on felony voyeurism charges.
Following his conviction, a federal immigration judge determined that he “no longer has a legal basis to remain in the US,” and was handed over to the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be repatriated back to China, an ICE official told the Washington Post.
It’s not clear how long Zhang will have to wait before being deported.
