Beijing’s infamous Sanlitun Bar Street appears to going the way of Shanghai’s Yongkang Lu with photos and videos hitting WeChat and Weibo today showing the infamously dingy alley of ill repute receiving a sprucing up of sorts via bulldozer.
Workers have dismantled all manner of shops along Sanlitun Houjie, which is known for housing some of the city’s more beloved nightlife spots for expats for more than two decades, as well as some of its most grimy. About half of the street was spared from the government clean-up campaign, officially aimed at beautifying the road unofficially known as the “Dirty Bar Street,” so your personal favorite dive may not be gone… yet.
