An elderly woman in Hangzhou passed the time during her recent surgery by playing around on her smartphone, browsing her friend circles on WeChat and snapping photos of the doctors and nurses while undergoing an 18-minute long operation on her legs.
Typically, mobile phones aren’t allowed in the operating room. But doctors made an exception for the 69-year-old woman surnamed Zhu because she confessed to them that she was feeling nervous about the surgery aimed at treating her varicose veins. Zhu said that she had been suffering from the cosmetically unappealing condition for the last decade after retiring from a life of standing up while working as a workshop technician.
The minor operation only required local anesthesia, so that Zhu was conscious the entire time. But, in the end, she told reporters that the whole thing was a breeze and hadn’t made her a bit nervous.
Now she just needs to go see someone about her cell phone addiction.
