Starting this Friday, a number of Shanghai Metro lines will start staying open past midnight on weekends. Plan your lives accordingly.
The opening hours of Lines 1, 2, 7, 8, 9 and 10 will be extended by 70 to 80 minutes on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as on nights before national holidays — like this Sunday.
Meanwhile, Lines 10 and 16 will also stay open 25 and 30 minutes longer on Sundays through Thursday. For more specific scheduling information check here, though it’s important to note that the Guanglan Road to Pudong airport section of Line 2 will still be closing down at its usual time.
While the Shanghai Metro is currently the largest rapid-transit system by length in the world (and still growing), it still closes down annoyingly early for almost everyone’s liking. This is another step in the right direction. Hooray!
