To motivate employees into getting into better shape, a consulting company in Xi’an is rewarding its office workers for slimming down with cold hard cash.
For every 1 kg of weight lost each month, employees receive a 100 yuan bonus, according to a local TV news report. In order to qualify for the cash, workers must first lose at least 3 kg. So far, over half of all the company’s employees have taken advantage of the new weight-loss program
The financial incentive has certainly worked wonders for one female employee named Zhou Wei who says that in the last two months she’s managed to pocket an extra 2,000 yuan by losing 20 kg. Zhou told reporters that while in the past she would always eat meat for every meal, now she has cut back to eating mushrooms and eggs for lunch.
While the boss of the company has said that the results of the program have far exceeded his own expectations, the same can not be said about his own weight loss. So far, he has not qualified to receive a bonus under the program that he set up, much to his disappointment.
Though we do worry about the potential this weight loss competition has for creating body image problems in the workplace, at least this company isn’t in the business of handing out sex dolls as bonuses.
