Less than a year after opening, Shanghai Disneyland has now welcomed over 10 million guests. Not up to initial rosy projections, but hey, at least it’s doing better than Hong Kong Disneyland.
The $5.5 billion resort opened to much fanfare back in June 2016 — seeing nearly a million visitors before it even officially opened its gates. While there have been more than a few bumps along the way, the resort has still been the most popular theme park in China.
That includes Hong Kong Disneyland, which has posted losses for two consecutive years, welcoming only around 6 million guests a year. There are concerns that Shanghai Disneyland’s popularity will only speed along its Hong Kong counterpart’s decline.
To celebrate its upcoming one-year anniversary, Shanghai Disneyland is gearing up for a month-long celebration, encouraging guests to share their “special memories” from past visits with the park’s social media accounts.
We happen to have a few images that we’d like to share:
What an 11 months it was.
