Hong Kong has been hit with a sudden, severe rainstorm that has thrown parts of the city into chaos and even caused one airplane to slip off the runway.
The city was forced to cancel afternoon school classes as rainfall exceeded 100mm in Kwai Tsing and Sam Shui Po, according to the South China Morning Post. At 12:30 p.m., the Hong Kong Observatory downgraded its black rainstorm warning to amber as rainfall submerged city streets and stopped traffic.
At 10:50 a.m., a China Eastern Airlines flight landing at the Hong Kong International Airport in the middle of the downpour slid off the runway, coming to a stop in the nearby grass. No injuries were reported.
