A 20-year-old college student from Chengdu became the youngest Chinese winner in the bikini category of a prestigious fitness competition on Saturday. She says that she owes her win to hard work, rigorous exercise and eating 10 egg whites every single day.
Last week, Tu Mengli traveled to Ulaanbataar to compete at the 51st Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship where she took home the gold in the Junior Women’s Bikini Fitness category.
For Xu, a student at Chengdu University, the road to Ulaanbataar was a long one that pushed her body to its limits. According to thecover.cn, each morning Xu would make at 5:30 a.m. so that she could be in the gym by 6 a.m. to take part in a grueling workout regimen of weight lifting, cardio and stage performance. She says that no one knows better than her what Chengdu looks like at dawn.
When she isn’t training, Xu is eating. Though she has a slim figure, weighing just 48kg, Xu devours 10 egg whites a day to keep her energy up. While red meat is forbidden to her, she frequently gorges herself on chicken, fish and shrimp, along with veggies and fruit.
So far, this has truly been a hallmark year for female Chinese bodybuilders. In March, one 32-year-old bodybuilder became the first Chinese woman to win first place at the Arnold Amateur.
