Since its founding in 2005, Shanghaiist has grown to become one of the leading English-language China websites, boasting over 4 million followers across Facebook, WeChat, Weibo, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr.
Based out of our Shanghai office, the Chinese Editorial Assistant will take a hands-on role in ensuring all Chinese language content across our digital and social platforms, meets the aims of Shanghaiist’s wider content strategy. This role ensures that the right content is presented in the right way, and in a quality worthy of Shanghaiist.
The successful candidate will be:
•a native Chinese speaker with excellent English language skills
•an organized self-starter with a can-do spirit
•a quick, creative thinker with a talent for producing crisp, concise Chinese language copy
•a meticulous, detailed translator
•able or willing to handle news, lifestyle and branded content,
•a lover of the city – someone that possesses a strong knowledge of Shanghai and the people, places and events that make it tick

Duties and responsibilities
•Create Chinese language content that fulfills Shanghaiist’s overall creative, commercial and business goals
•Translate selected content from English to Chinese
•Assist the News Editor in staying on top of trending topics on Chinese social media
•Manage a portfolio of Chinese-language social media accounts
•Work closely with the sales and marketing team to ensure all digital content is well optimized
•Maintain and develop strongly working relationships with external partners
•Excellent translation, creative writing and copy-editing skills
•Demonstrable track record of producing engaging content for WeChat and Weibo
•Experience or willingness to work in a fast-paced (often chaotic) web production environment
•Proven ability or willingness to work with the tools of the trade – HTML, content management systems, photo/video editing, and the WeChat backend system
•Proven ability or willingness to work effectively with editorial, and sales/marketing teams
•Strong knowledge of Shanghai with a desire to constantly be uncovering the latest and greatest things happening in the city
This is a full-time position. The ability to work in the evenings and on weekends Is a plus.
