After getting pulled over for driving an unlicensed motorcycle illegally down a Jiangsu expressway, one smooth operator attempted to extricate himself from the situation by flashing his “CIA badge.”
The badge listed the man’s name as “Dan Du,” while describing his job as an “IMF Field Agent.” It also included a handy QR code to scan.
However, officers were apparently not impressed, eventually forcing the man to hand over his Chinese passport.
Afterward, Nanjing police could not resist posting an account of the incident to Weibo, where it subsequently went viral. According to the post, the man was on his way from Henan to Zhejiang to attend to a gathering of motorcyclist enthusiasts.
The post ended by saying that he was punished “in accordance with the law,” though it’s not clear what exactly that means.
Meanwhile, Chinese netizens have questioned the man’s decision to escalate a routine traffic stop to an international incident, particularly considering how China allegedly deals with US spies.
