Early on Saturday morning, a massive landslide in Sichuan’s Maoxian County demolished dozens of homes and left more than a hundred people buried underneath the rubble. Amid the devastation, rescuers found one faithful dog, waiting for its owner to return.
In a short video clip that has gone viral online, a rescuer can be heard approaching the forlorn white dog, sitting by itself in the wasteland that was once Xinmo village. “Anyone here? Little dog, where is your owner?” he asks.
The clip has touched the hearts of many around the country with netizens praising the loyalty of man’s best friend, particularly at a time when China’s infamous Yulin Dog Meat Festival is being celebrated in Guangxi. “What do those who support eating dog meat have to say about this?” writes one Weibo user.
More than two days after the landslide occurred hope is running out for the 93 people still listed as missing. Earlier this afternoon, rescuers were forced to leave the site after an alert was issued for a possible secondary disaster.
