Looking for something sexy but elegant to wear at the beach this summer? Have we got just the thing for you! Two words: “Porcelain facekini.”
This 7th-generation of the Chinese beachwear classic features a traditional blue-and-white porcelain-inspired design, just like you’d see on a piece of pottery in Jingdezhen, except on a face-covering bathing suit.
While the swimsuit may look odd to many, older women in the seaside city of Qingdao swear by them, believing that they are essential to protecting their fair skin from the sun’s damaging rays, not to mention from the problematic swaths of green algae blooming on the water’s surface.
Since being formally introduced around a decade ago, the facekini has gone through a number of iterations at the hands of designer Zhang Shifan who has introduced facekinis inspired by Peking opera and endangered animals.
We can’t wait to see what she has in store for next year.
