The heartbreaking story of one critically ill little girl whose father is preparing her for her own death has caused netizens across China to open up their hearts and wallets.
In a video clip shared by Pear Video last week, a father is seen lying in a grave alongside his daughter, 2-year-old Zhang Xinlei. The little girl was born with a serious blood disorder called thalassemia which requires regular and expensive medical treatment.
Xinlei’s dad says that he takes his daughter to the grave every day to play and rest, so that she won’t be afraid when the time comes.
Over the last two years, Xinlei’s family has spent 140,000 yuan on her medical treatment. But now, they’ve run out of money, and friends and family members aren’t willing to loan them any more, causing the couple to start preparing for what seems inevitable.
Along with their money, Xinlei’s parents have tried offering their blood to keep their daughter alive. However, doctors told them that their blood was not a match for their daughter, causing them to decide to have another child. Xinlei’s mom, Deng Min, is currently pregnant with the couple’s second kid, but, even if the infant does share Xinlei’s blood type, the operation will cost a lot of money that the family simply does not have.
In a last ditch effort to save her daughter, Deng recently launched an appeal on Shuidichou.com, China’s version of GoFundMe, setting a goal of 200,000 yuan. After the little girl’s story went viral, donations began pouring in and are currently up to more than 107,000 yuan.
Xinlei’s story also touched the heart of one British woman who has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help save the little girl’s life. The campaign has already raised £641 after one day.
