Heart-pounding footage of a daring rescue has gone viral on the Chinese internet showing one seemingly doomed man being saved just in the nick of time from being swept away by rushing flood waters.
Floods have ravaged southern China over the past week, but perhaps nowhere has been harder hit than the tourist town of Yangshuo in Guangxi. Recently, a man there was trapped in an underground garage with floodwaters rushing by him and slowly rising.
In order to rescue the man, passersby and colleagues devised a plan involving a fire extinguisher and hose. Eventually, one of the man’s brave co-workers is seen walking out on a thin railing to drop the hose to the man. At the last moment, he’s able to grab the hose and is pulled to safety. Meanwhile, the garage where he was hiding has completed filled with water.
More than 50 people have already been killed in southern China due to severe flooding this week. Unfortunately, more rain is expected until at least Sunday.
