One 13-year-old kid wound up in the ICU following what sounds like the craziest 6th-grade graduation party ever.
Recently, more than 20 students at a Jinan primary school celebrated their impending graduation with a banquet at a local hotel. At the banquet, one youngster, named Gao Gao, consumed seven bottles of erguotou, a deadly type of baijiu made from sorghum, with alcohol levels of 56%, according to a local news report.
More than a little drunk, the not-yet-middle-schooler was rushed from the banquet to the hospital where he had his stomach pumped before being transported to the ICU for treatment for three days.
Gao Gao’s grandfather estimates that in total the kid guzzled down about a pound of baijiu. He said that normally Gao Gao is a very sincere and upright boy, adding that prior to this occasion he had any baijiu before. Apparently, though, he found that he had a taste for it.
Meanwhile, the owner of the hotel where the banquet was held denied any knowledge of the rowdy goings-on among the very under-aged revelers. The owner told reporters that they don’t even sell erguotou with 56% ABV levels, reasoning that the kids must have brought the bottles in from outside. Reporters did their due diligence, speaking with two nearby supermarkets who also said that they had no clue where the students had purchased the baijiu from.
