Find out what China was like in the 50s and 60s through the eyes of the local elderly, as they share their experiences of joy, love, hardship and triumph of their youth at Beyond the Bund’s storytelling series. For 30 minutes they will take you back to a time where patriotism was a religion, and allow you to hear the street voices, conversations and sweet voices of charming songs from the 1960’s.
Not only will you enjoy this thought-provoking storytelling experience, you will have a chance to eat like them too! If you have your food tokens, you will be able to sample their staple diet. Back then, everyone was awarded 26 food tokens a month for all their hard work; 4 tokens for rice, 8 tokens for vegetables and 14 tokens for maize.Rice tokens were rare and were saved for special occasions.
