The story of one selfless grandpa who walked 60 kilometers just to give his grandson some eggs is touching hearts online.
The elderly man in his eighties was spotted walking slowly on the side of a freeway near the city of Zunyi in Guizhou province on Monday evening before being stopped by police. He told officers that he was on his way to see his grandson, carrying with him dozens of eggs.
Worried that his hard-working grandson was not eating well, the grandpa set off on his journey at around 7 a.m. on Monday morning, covering 60 kilometers in 12 hours before being stopped by police who drove him the rest of the way. The elderly man said that he had chosen not to take a bus to save money, but admitted that during his trek some of the eggs had broken.
When police showed up escorting his grandfather, the grandson was taken aback, explaining that he had no clue his grandpa was planning to visit him, much less with bunches of eggs. He said that he would certainly take his grandpa out for a nice meal while he was in town.
While the elderly man’s selfless journey has touched the hearts on many Chinese netizens, prompting them to share their own stories about their loving grandparents, more than a few have also voiced their concerns about the grandpa’s decision to walk down the side of a busy expressway.
